The origins of West End Orthopaedic Clinic began in the early 1900s with the practice of Dr. H. Page Mauck, Dr. R.D. Butterworth and Dr. William E. Daner.
The modern practice has its beginnings with Dr. John F. Butterworth III who joined in 1957 at the practice location of 5th & Franklin Streets in downtown Richmond. By 1963, the practice grew to include Dr. Thomas R. Butterworth, Jr. and Dr. William R. Mauck, son of the founding surgeon H. Page Mauck. These three surgeons began a new era with the opening of a new office at 900 N. Hamilton Street, which was then considered the west end of Virginia’s Capital. The group retained this identity as West End Orthopaedic Clinic into the 21st Century, even as the practice expanded with multiple locations further west, to the southside and to the northside.
