Pre-operative instructions
OUTPATIENT SURGERY TESTING CENTER

Operatory personnel may be contacting you for pre-registration. An anesthesiologist and nurse will review your medical history. Records and medication information will be reviewed. If you have not been contacted by the Operatory one week prior to surgery, call (804) 287-2797

Lab work, EKG and chest X-ray may be required and obtained from hospital or designated lab facility. The order form has a fax number for sending results to the Operatory.

EATING & DRINKING

DO eat a light meal for supper the night before surgery.
DO brush your teeth and use mouthwash the day of your surgery, but do not swallow.
DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight or morning of your surgery except medications instructed to take by Operatory nurse or anesthesiologist.
DO NOT smoke, chew gum or eat candy after midnight or on day of surgery.

MEDICATIONS
The anesthesiologist may instruct you to take your medication the morning of surgery with a sip of water. Please make sure you advise anesthesia about your daily medications and inhalers and bring them with you on the day of surgery.

There is no smoking in the Operatory building.

CLOTHING
DO wear loose fitting and comfortable clothes.
DO wear flat shoes.
DO wear cotton underwear.
DO NOT wear or bring: false eyelashes, makeup, jewelry, nail polish, contact lenses, hairpieces, clips or valuables. Remove all piercing jewelry.

ARRIVAL
Operatory personnel will contact you for arrival time for surgery.
Please bring with you:
•    Driver's license or photo ID
•    Insurance card
•    Cash or check for insurance co-payment or deductible.

PARKING
Ample parking is available in the lot near the front entrance or in the parking deck across Bremo Road.

PRIOR TO SURGERY
Arrive on time so that your surgery can be done on time or earlier. Unexpected situations may cause delays. Do not plan other appointments or bring small children.

DAY OF SURGERY
You will be checked in by a nurse. Type of anesthesia will be discussed. An IV will be started. The surgeon will discuss the operation with you.
